Departures MagazineEmeril Lagasse is an American celebrity chef and restaurateur. He’s appeared on cooking shows, written several books and is behind a handful of restaurants from East to West coast in the United States.
Much before the stardom and spotlight, Emeril was a young man growing up in Fall River, a small town in Massachusetts comprising a large Portuguese community. It was in his home’s kitchen, accompanied by his Portuguese mother, Hilda and later in a Portuguese bakery nearby that he started uncovering a passion for food.
Now in his 60s, Emeril Lagasse has decided to revisit his Portuguese roots for a new restaurant he will be opening with his son in EJ. As part of the research for his menu, he travelled with his family and team to Portugal to unearth the flavours of his childhood.
